For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

This is such an excellent chapter in the tale of God’s love for us. While we were dead in trespass and sin, the spotless lamb came into the world. He boar our guilt, shame, and sins. He did this out of his great love for us. That we might be called the children of a; Holy, almighty, righteous, jealous, loving, just, sin hating, merciful God.

Of our own merit, we had no room to come to him. We were vile, wretched, and deserved to die. We had always forsaken mercy and truth. But, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us…

• You were without Christ.
• Aliens from the commonwealth of Israel.
• Strangers from the covenants of promise.
• Having no hope.
• Without God in the world!

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Ephesians 2:4-5

What does it mean to be quickened?

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;    

We were dead in sins and trespasses. We have been called out of death into life according to the 1st book of John.

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:  

 The Prince of the power of the air. This is the old serpent. We were subject to him once in our darkness. Now he works in the children of disobedience. “there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,” “These be they who separate themselves, Sensual, having not the spirit”

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. II Corinthians 5:17

Do not frustrate the Grace of God. Take this free gift that was offered you in Christ Jesus our Lord, and walk not anymore in the bondage of your sins. Keep yourselves unspotted from the world. Seek him and you shall find him, when you seek him with all your heart.
