But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 JOHN 1:7
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life John 8:12
One of the most popular scriptures in the world is probably John 3:16. In this verse we see how great the love of God is. He sent his only begotten son, to be our mediator. He bore our sins on that cross and rescued us from our sins.
Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. Ezekiel 36:25
By the washing of regeneration. We shall be clean, because he said so. Let’s read on down a few verses from John 3:16
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Paul asks the Corinthians a very fundemental question. Are you reprobates?…
Can you prove yourself? Do you walk in light? Surely you can know yourself? You can see that Jesus Christ is in you because you are walking in the light. Has he cleansed you from your sins? I know that we make mistakes on occasion. I am not trying to say that if you mess up you must be a reprobate. In fact, a reprobate is not even going to consider my words. They will either right me off as a legalist, or act as if they have not sinned!
There are two extremes I want to deal with.
One man will commit sin over and over. Openly, without shame. He justifies himself in his sin because he doesn’t believe we have to be cleansed of sin. This man has seered his conscience, and is following a false Christ. He has placed his flesh above the death of Jesus for sinners. I pray that he will repent. If he will not, he will become hardened through the deceitfulness of sin, and he will become reprobate.
Another man will become very self-righteous. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. I John 1:8 We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 3:10
Don’t think that you can “do it” or be “good enough”. Our righteousness comes from Jesus Christ. I can walk even as he walked, because he will sprinkle me with clean water. I will be clean. But not because of my own ability. I am a sinner by nature. I am subject to vanity. This man needs to repent, stop trusting the arm of the flesh, and return to his first love. Or, he will become reprobate…
So please, walk in the light, even as he is in the light. It is a strait and narrow way. Do not move to the left or to the right. Jesus Alone.
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16
Know where your strength comes from, and go be that light! Men will see it and glorify God in heaven. That is why we are here anyways. To bring glory to his name. Amen
God Bless
